Let them Live
Written by Mandy Fanelli of BRUMBIES Inspire Me
The silence was deafening
Reflections of moon beams
Mother Earth became teary.
The flurries of snowflakes
Falling on bodies littering the land,
Stone cold to touch
These innocents murdered by man.
The wind rustled the leaves
An owl looked out upon dark,
A sole dingo howled in the distance
There was discord in the Park:
Over a century had grown
A harmony- a peace,
Between creatures and environment
Which man tries to cease.
The wild horses introduced
To a land that was giving,
Everything thrived
In Mountains made for the living.
The poets wrote poems
The artists painted the scene,
A history of brumbies
Entwined in a land so serene.
Stop erasing the past
Stop hurting our souls,
Start seeking the truth
Start finding common goals.
Cease slaughtering these creatures
With so much to give,
In this land of plenty
Just let them live.
When Summer rolls around
And the Park’s overrun,
When the Mountain’s become a tinderbox
We’ll ask what have we done?
You see in nature there’s a balance
It’s called cause and effect,
And those making deadly decisions
Haven’t learned this respect.
The Brumbies have a purpose
And a reason for being,
They deserve their reign
On this Earth it would seem.
