Like eagles circling overhead, in search of prey to feed,
claws outstretched to clasp and claim, to satisfy their need.
Artists of deception, deceitful in their game,
shrouded by controversy while we endure the pain.
Speeches so convincing, backs against the wall,
no accountability, favours to recall.
Changes for the better, like carrots on a string,
those in opposition, hoping for a swing.
Voting is compulsory, by law we must partake,
outcomes so ridiculous, hands are hard to shake.
Upheld at election, second past the post,
all comes down to preferences, forget who won the most.
Minor parties in control, policies to appease,
fuel supplies are dwindling, country on its knees.
Once so dry and barren, quickly turning Green,
climate change to save the world, political sway on stream.
Fossil fuels discouraged, wind now in demand,
solar panels everywhere, networks to expand.
Projects are impulsive, outcomes to deplore,
spent in haste, so much waste, handouts wanting more.
Minerals are our lifeline, exports raising tax,
world trade is our saviour, imports to the max.
Inflation is our downfall, interest rates to rise,
living costs are spiralling, so many in demise.
Once we had democracy, not fifty shades of grey,
dictatorship is closing in, the memo’s on it’s way.
Wealth constraints, there are none, with balance in decline,
someone call a recess, it’s time to draw the line.
