Purple Zone Bee Keepers raising concerns re Bayvarol Strips used for Varroa

Central Coast Bee keepers in the purple zone speaking about what they’ve discovered in the Bayvarol Strips and their concerns regarding potential toxic effects on the honey. BAYVAROL STRIPS -AN UNREGISTERED PRODUCT Containing: 3.6 mg/strip FLUMETHRIN as the only active constituent. Bayvarol is a Bayer product. The unregistered strips were authorised by the DPI under emergency authorisation- PERMIT TO ALLOW SUPPLY AND EMERGENCY USE OF AN UNREGISTERED AGVET CHEMICAL PRODUCT FOR SURVEILLANCE, SUPPRESSION OR CONTROL OF VARROA MITES IN HONEYBEE COLONIES AT CROP POLLINATION After months of back and forth with the Dept of Primary Industries (DPI) receiving conflicting information Kate and Steve have been told that they should not eat the wax or sell the wax, and that if they want to get the honey tested they must send it to Germany at a large cost to themselves.
