The Man From Snowy River is more than a blockbuster movie. It is symbolic to Australian heritage & our pioneering history in arguably the last wild part in southern Australia. It perfectly portrayed the mountain culture & traditions that sadly have been outlawed by beauracratic rules, regulations & a shift towards control – people & environment. Government have taken the right to high country grazing & even access to the high country areas. All that is left are the campfire yarns, some huts & our mountain brumbies. The wildness of the mountains has long gone & what is left is locked up with ‘aurhorised access only’.
The movie celebrates 40 years this year, coincidentally at a time when the last connection to the long gone high country lifestyle is being eradicated in most parts – the brumbies are facing their last stand. And those that stand up against this shred of connection to history are labelled troublemakers or right/left wing activists!
IT IS OUR CULTURE, OUR HISTORY, OUR MOUNTAINS & MOST IMORTANTLY, OUR BRUMBIES THAT SYMBOLISE THIS LINK. Yet state governments see fit to gun down & slaughter them to eliminate any trace of our pioneering past.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT to OUR COUNTRY & OUR CULTURE is what the movie is all about. We must hold on to the last link we have.
SAVE OUR BRUMBIES – SAVE OUR HISTORY
