Stop & Think – (Updated)

Climate change you call it, you’ve given it a name,

everyone’s an expert, finger pointing blame.

Let’s pause for a moment, and all just stop and think,

it’s been this way a million years, at last received a drink.

The driest country in the world, is and always was,

a land of transformations, an island we call Oz.

Most of it is desert, arid, hot and dry,

salt lakes by the thousands, and yet you question why.

Elections either won or lost, all in the need for change,

rain events turn on and off, and carbon is to blame.

It’s hard to justify the cause, seasons come and go,

have before, always will, storms will always blow.

Born and bred in the fifties, terrible dust and drought,

fifty four to sixty three, hard to breathe throughout.

Day and night, weeks on end, cellar living revival,

hessian damp, filtered air, determined our survival.

The patterns never ending, same result each day,

from the North till lunchtime, then back the other way.

Sand storms were relentless, dig and clean each night,

stock trough’s covered over, buried all in sight.

Statistics are too recent, you can’t change the past,

the world is way too big a place, and space so deep and sparse.

Droughts will follow rain events, that you can’t debate,

it’s been that way forever, and we don’t have long to wait,

Climate change you call it, you’ve given it a name,

everyone’s an expert, finger pointing blame.

Let’s pause for a moment, and all just stop and think,

it’s been this way a million years, at last received a drink.
