President Donald Trump has blasted the “woke bishop” who delivered a “nasty” sermon filled with radical leftist talking points during Tuesday’s National Prayer Service. On Wednesday morning, Trump slammed Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde for delivering a “boring and uninspiring” sermon.
Budde has been dubbed the “woke bishop” after she used the sermon to target Trump her far-left political agenda.
The bishop lectured the president and Vice President J.D. Vance, who were sitting in the first pew at the service in the Washington National Cathedral.
She pleaded for the administration to “have mercy” on illegal aliens and “gay, lesbian and transgender children … some who fear for their lives.”
Her comments come a day after Trump signed an executive order declaring the federal government will recognize only two sexes.
In a fiery post on social media, Trump demanded an apology.
“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater,” Trump posted to Truth Social.
“She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way.
“She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart …
“She is not very good at her job!
“She and her church owe the public an apology!”
Budde also insisted “the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals” during the sermon.
She called on Trump to consider “communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away.”
“She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people,” the president continued.
“Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions.
“It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA.
“Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one.”
The president also moved to end birthright citizenship for children who aren’t born to legal permanent residents in another executive order.
Budde previously criticized Trump after police used tear gas against rioters during 2020’s “George Floyd” riots.
She called his approach “antithetical to the teachings of Jesus” on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Budde is Episcopalian.
