Why this petition matters
Started by A Concerned Citizen Of Australia
Did you know that every day, truckloads of fresh water are being taken away from national park aquifers at Springbrook and Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast hinterland, Australia?
Companies like Coca Cola take this water for free to sell back to us as spring water, depleting the ecosystem of this essential resource, while contributing to millions of single-use plastic bottles each year.
These areas are home to unique Gondwana Rainforests, which have been recognised internationally via their World Heritage status and international bird migration agreements.
They are home to many endangered and endemic species, including Albert’s lyrebird, the black-tailed antechinus, Lamington spiny crayfish, hinterland spiny crayfish, Embezee’s crayfish, the angle-headed dragon, glossy black cockatoo, Cascade tree frog, pouched frog, greater glider, long-nosed potoroo, marbled frogmouth, pink underwing moth, birdwing butterfly, ravine orchid and Antarctic beech trees that are up to 3000 years old.
The Queensland government will set new rules for water regulation by late 2026 but as part of the process, it will only accept public opinion until July 21st this year.
We are urging the government to stop all commercial water mining in these sensitive areas and we need your help to convince them.
